An adventure lover and avid photographer, Mo climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro when she was 13, Mt. Pisco when she was 16 and led a group of 12 students to the summit of Mt. Kota Kinabalu when she was 18. In the pre-departure briefing, Mo will ensure you have all necessary gear and training to make the climb a success. Young Artist Residency at Lake Como, Italy

for a one-of-kind creative adventure that combines plein-air painting the stunning vistas, learning to cook authentic Italian dishes and kayaking on the clear blue waters of Lake Como.   • Day 1: Hong Kong to Milan

    • Fly from Hong Kong to Milan, Italy.

    • Arrive in Milan and transfer to accommodation in Como.

    • Introduce the students to the daily budget and assign the first student responsible for meal planning and budgeting.

    • The assigned student can research local markets and shops to purchase groceries for the group's meals.

    Day 2: Lake Como and Gouache Painting

    • The assigned student prepares breakfast using the budget and the groceries purchased.

    • Begin the day with a painting session by Lake Como, using gouache as the medium.

    • After the painting session, have a picnic lunch prepared by the assigned student.

    • Conduct a group critique session, where students share their artwork and provide feedback, while the assigned student prepares dinner within the budget.

    Day 3: Cooking Lessons and Acrylic Painting

    • The assigned student prepares breakfast for the group.

    • Participate in a cooking lesson in the morning, with guidance from a local chef.

    • Enjoy the cooked meal for lunch, prepared by the students under the supervision of the local chef.

    • Transition to an acrylic painting session in the afternoon, while the assigned student prepares dinner.

    Day 4: Visit to Uffizi Gallery in Florence and Watercolor Painting

    • The assigned student takes charge of breakfast.

    • Travel to Florence and visit the Uffizi Gallery.

    • Have a guided watercolor painting session in Florence, while the assigned student prepares a packed lunch for the group.

    • Conduct a critique session during the return journey to Como, with the assigned student responsible for dinner.

    Day 5: Tarot Garden and Plein Air Painting

    • The assigned student prepares breakfast.

    • Take a day trip to the Tarot Garden in Garavicchio, Tuscany.

    • Engage in plein air painting amidst the sculptures, while the assigned student prepares a picnic lunch.

    • Conduct a critique session during the return journey, with the assigned student in charge of dinner.

    Day 6: Sunflower Fields and Outdoor Activities

    • The assigned student takes care of breakfast.

    • Take a day trip to the sunflower fields in the Tuscan countryside.

    • Engage in plein air painting, while the assigned student prepares a packed lunch for the group.

    • Enjoy outdoor games and activities in the fields, with the assigned student responsible for dinner.

    Day 7: Free Day for Individual Projects and Critiques

    • The assigned student prepares breakfast.

    • Allocate this day as a free day for individual art projects, while the assigned student plans and prepares lunch.

    • Conduct individual critique sessions, with the assigned student responsible for dinner.

    Optional group activity: Visit a local art supply store or an art exhibition for inspiration.

    Day 8: Leisure Time and Final Exhibition Preparation

    • The assigned student takes care of breakfast.

    • Allow students to enjoy leisure time, with the assigned student responsible for lunch.

    • Encourage students to prepare their artworks for the final exhibition, while the assigned student plans and prepares dinner.

    • Spend the evening setting up the exhibition space and creating labels or descriptions for each artwork.

    Day 9: Final Exhibition and Departure

    • The assigned student prepares breakfast.

    • Host a final exhibition of the students' artworks.

    • Celebrate the students' accomplishments with a closing ceremony.

    • Check out of your accommodation in Como.

    • Transfer back to Milan for your return flight to Hong Kong, concluding the residency.

    Sketchbook

    Choose one or two that travel well, have paper that suits a variety of media and that you love. A small sketchbook (4 X 6 inches) that fits in a pocket is very convenient, however, something with a larger format (5.25 X 8.25 inches) and heavier paper is good for more permanent work. There are sketchbooks that have watercolor pages too. Moleskin makes a variety of sizes and styles.

Mo Kwok

M.Ed Harvard, B.A. UChicago

Mo is Hong Kong’s leading project based learning educator and practicing artist. She specialises in creative media and the intersection between, art, design and technology. From electric skateboards to short films, cookie companies to ping pong competitions she has mentored Hong Kong’s brightest young minds in turning ideas into reality, passion and inquiry into social impact. 

Under the guidance of Scratch inventor Prof. Mitchel Resnick at. MIT Media Lab, she founded Lifelong Labs to transform the future of creative learning. Prior to Lifelong Labs, Mo studied political science and visual arts at University of Chicago, worked at the Harvard Art Museum and was a finalist to the Rhodes Scholarship. She dropped out of law school (HKU JD Candidate) to chase her dream.
