We finally got Hayley’s bisque back from the kiln! Today she glazed her ceramic cup which will be fired again to melt and seal the glaze. Hayley also started a series of abstract paintings as a study of geometric shapes and colours. We talked about possible longer-term project ideas today and we will be starting something new and exciting next class!

We finished the knitted wrap scarf today! Hayley decided to continue with the earth tone colour scheme with her yarn selections. The final product shows consistency in the design process although there are a couple holes in the scarf that Haley says she likes. We talked about the various yarn materials and care for animal fibres like wool and cashmere so she can attach special care instructions with her gift.

We are making a scarf for a special someone that Hayley refuses to disclose. She has designed the scarf by calculating how many rows of each colours she needs and cranking out the rows with a circular knitting machines. In her design, she has sprinkled rows of blue and green to give it a little extra wonder, lucky for whoever receives it as a Christmas gift.

Hayley finished her 3D printed coffee table! In the previous session she use silicon to fill the gaps that were between the board and the beams. Today, she had a taste of product photography as she photographed her final product against a dramatic black backdrop. She also tried to make ceramic tableware by throwing on the wheel for the very first time. With her strong grip and patience, she was able to create a small cup with the hole in the bottom. She then hand built two cups with ear shaped handles attached then with slip.

Hayley used the drill for the first time! She installed 4 supporting beams to stabilise her coffee table. Looks like we are almost across the finish line for this project and will start a new one next time she is the lab. The only thing left to do is to paint it white and install a plastic acrylic sheet on top to cover the gaps on the surface.

Hayley is almost done with her table! We assembled the top part of the table and wrapped each leg in white craft tape. She measured out the panel according to the top, we cut it and she fit the surface in to create the counter top. The table is a bit wobbly but we will brainstorm ways to stabilise it and hopefully start a new project next week!

Hayley started working on her 3D printed table. We began with making a prototype with straws that was at scale 1:10. We then did all the calculation and went to the wood shop on Wellington to purchase wood. Upon returning, we assembled the bottom part of the table.
