Hey! We are the storytellers. Our mission is to develop a passion for reading in each child. We have a strong belief that every child should be able to have the opportunity to explore new genres and find their love for reading. We host classes once a month to discuss the book and play a fun game that connects to the book we have read in the session.

Meet your instructors!

Devika

b. 2010, Hong Kong

I am Devika Chellaram and I go to HKIS. I have felt very passionate about reading from a young age and I believe that each child should be able to find a love for books too! I have 2 younger siblings so I am very responsible and know what it's like to take initiative and be a role model. I have taken part in several leadership positions such as class leader and student ambassador as well as hold charity events. My favorite book is The Giver By Louis Lowry.

Anisha Grover

b. 2010, Hong Kong

Hi! I’m Anisha Grover and I am a 13 year old student, who has a passion for literacy. I am an avid reader, and in my free time I love to dance, debate and learn about other people’s viewpoints. I am curious and love to ask questions about anything and everything. This ultimately helps me build connections with others. My all-time favourite genres are historical fiction and fantasy, as I feel that learning about the past helps me understand my present but also helps prepare me for future events. I am fortunate enough to have a little brother, who is two and a half years younger than me. He has taught me how to not only be responsible, organize events, but also spend time wisely and much more! My favourite book would be “The Inheritance Games” by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.

Ananya Bathija

b. 2009, New York

Heyy, my name is Ananya Bathija. I am 14 years old and am in HKIS Grade 9. When I’m not doing my homework or studying for an exam, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, practicing self-care, watching TV, and starting from a young age, I have held a passion for reading books! In the past, I have held a summer camp session with my brother which included arts and crafts, cooking, and activities that allowed the children to get active. Additionally, I have held a scavenger hunt session for children! Both of these opportunities provided me with experience that can help me work with children of the ages 7-10. Throughout my time at HKIS, I have taken up multiple leadership positions, such as Student Council in G3, Student Ambassador in G5 and G8, PCG Leader in G7 and G8, and as a part of the Student Leadership team in G7.
